A life preserver ring (or similar device) is an essential purchase for any Fort Myers swimming pools.

A life preserver may also be known as a…

  • Lifebuoy
  • Ring buoy
  • Life-ring
  • Lifesaver (this is where the circular candy got its name!)
  • Life preserver
  • Lifebelt

It’s a circular device with a hole in the middle, designed to be thrown to a person in the water, to help keep them afloat if they are struggling to stay above water.14 Ways to Make a Splash With Pool Safety

Life preservers for large Fort Myers swimming pools are usually designed to be lighter and smaller than those for boats or use on open water. For small, home pools, there are a variety of forms to choose from. Tube or torpedo-shaped devices may be a better choice.

Life jackets are another smart safety purchase for pool owners. All new swimmers, non- swimmers, or weaker individuals should wear a life jacket or other similar buoyancy device if they are going to fully immerse themselves in the pool.

Children’s life jackets are specially designed to keep their heads above water at all times. Don’t be tempted to use water wings or other informal inflatable devices. These can give you a false sense of security. They are NOT safety devices and will not prevent drowning if they are punctured or damaged.

Remember, even with the best life preservers and life jackets, you must always follow all the safety tips, and never leave children unattended at Fort Myers swimming pools.
