Ultimate Swimming Pool Spa

Pool Pros, Inc. Blog

You love your swimming pool, right? But, do you love maintaining it?

How to Maintain a Swimming Pool

Usually when I pose those questions to my clients, I get a happy excited look followed by a disgusted one.

When it comes to maintaining their own swimming pools, most people I talk to here in Southwest Florida tell me it’s extremely boring, aggravating, time consuming, and it keeps them from something else that they’d rather be doing.

And it’s not just the upkeep of their pool that they grumble about, it’s also the cost of running it. If you own a swimming pool, then you know exactly what I’m talking about.

It costs money to run the pump, filter, lights, spill-over spa, deck jets, and water features. Little by little these costs add up and suddenly your pool is giving you a bigger headache than it’s worth.

Swimming Pool Maintenance Made Easy

Fortunately, there are ways that you can reduce the amount of time you spend maintaining your pool while maximizing the time you spend enjoying it with your family…and no…it doesn’t involve hiring a pool maintenance company.

I was just looking over our online “eBook” library and I have to say —

Pool Construction - Pool Safety - Fort Myers - Naples Florida

WOW!  We have got quite the library of helpful information – from pool service & pool safety tips to pool renovation ideas to creating the ‘ultimate outdoor environment’ it’s in there!

Over the years, I’ve met with thousands of families, parents, and couples who have asked such wonderful questions.

I’ve helped dozens in times of need turn what was a not-so-good situation (a dark green, moldy, mildew infested pool, for example) into a dream outdoor experience…

But one of the most powerful things we started doing a few years ago (A BIG thank you to my friends and Internet Marketers at ISG!) was creating helpful eBooks that have truly empowered so many people.

With everything we create, we try to:

  • thoroughly answer the questions we receive,
  • provide thoughtful direction – hints and tips on creating and maintaining the best environment, and
  • assure you’re learning from all of the lessons we’ve learned over the years!

If you’ve met me, or my team, you know we want nothing more than the safest, happiest, and most fun outdoor environment for you, your family and friends.  That’s our mission! 😉

Pool Safety Tips

Pool Renovation - Installing a Fence

With most kids back to school or getting ready to go back to school, summer break is just about over. Even though most children and adults are back to the “school time grind” the weather in Southwest Florida allows for at least a few more months to enjoy your pool.

As homework becomes the focus for most children in the afternoon, we still need to be vigilant of swimming pool safety even if you don’t have children at home.

Children Are at Highest Risk of Drowning

There are simple things you can do to keep your pool safe and prevent injury or tragedy. These things include:

Posted by Joe On July 24th

Well, we finally got with the program and decided to showcase our work on Houzz.com and Pinterest!

Although we’ve always offered a portfolio of our pools, spas, and backyard environments on our website, we realized that sites like Houzz and Pinterest have a much broader audience and therefore decided that if we can’t beat ’em, JOIN ‘EM!

Of course as we build new pools around Southwest Florida, we’ll be sure to add photos to both sites and perhaps tempt a few people to get in touch with us.

We LOVE helping others realize their dreams of owning a backyard environment like no one else’s and that’s truly what helps us wake up in the morning!

Back in April, I told you about how an ItellipH® pH Controller from Pentair could keep your family and guests from suffering with red, irritated eyes after swimming in your pool.

We Love Our Pool - No Puffy Red EyesWell just recently, we upgraded one of our clients’ filtering and sanitation system for his in-ground pool and when I told him about the benefits that the IntellipH® brings to the table, he decided that he didn’t want to spend any additional money to ensure his family’s comfort.

But as he soon learned, balancing the chemicals in his swimming pool wasn’t an easy task, or one that he had enough time for.

His children started complaining about their red, puffy eyes each and every time that they swam in the pool – a CLEAR SIGN of a pH imbalance.

Long story short, he calls me back up and says “Joe, you were right. Can you please install that pH controller that you were telling me about? My kids won’t stop complaining about their stinging eyes.”

No More Stinging, Bloodshot Eyes after Swimming

If you’d like to see for yourself just how well Pentair’s IntellipH® pH Controller works, we’re putting them on sale for $880 with taxes and installation included! That’s $100 in savings!

In the Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Naples, Florida metro area, contact us or all (239) 277-7783 and ask for the IntellipH® special going on for the whole month of July! Sale goes on through 5pm on July 31st, 2013. Don’t wait!

How are you supposed to enjoy your ultimate backyard environment if  your palm trees are turning black like this?

Imagine that you worked your whole life and socked away money in order to purchase your dream home in Southwest Florida.

You spend a lot of time and money designing the perfect home, complete with a gorgeous back yard setting…your own slice of heaven!

Imagine that your backyard is complete with a newly renovated swimming pool that comes with fountains, deck jets, and waterfalls.

You also took the time to carefully map out your landscaping features and had them installed by experts.

After a few weeks of enjoying your new home, you notice that your palm trees are turning white and then black and wilting!

Why are my palm trees dying?

That’s a great question and it’s one that had my team and I baffled. As we were out servicing pools, we kept noticing more and more palm trees that were turning black with a white, sticky substance on them (as pictured above).

As it turns out, this problem is caused by Rugose Spiraling Whiteflies, a new pest that’s come to Southwest Florida and looks like this:

Hurricane Clean Up Service - Southwest Florida

With hurricane season quickly approaching, it’s time to start devising a game plan in the event of a devastating storm.

The obvious factors that should be considered are your health, food, clean drinking water, shelter, and a generator. Other factors that you’ll want to consider are your clean up efforts.

In this article, we’re going to focus on the clean up of your swimming pool.

If you’ve only been a resident of Southwest Florida for a short period of time, you may not be aware that the Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1st through November 30th.

Those of us that have lived here or owned a home here for a number of years, can attest to the fact that even though we haven’t had any seriously devastating storms make landfall since 2005, Florida is always at risk! The following storms come to mind:

  • Hurricane Donna (Category 4, 1960)
  • Hurricane Andrew (Category 5, 1992)
  • Hurricane Charley (Category 4, 2004)
  • Hurricane Wilma (Category 3, 2005)

According to the National Hurricane Center: Andrew, Charley, and Wilma caused over 62.6 billion dollars in damage and are listed in the top 6 of the 30 costliest mainland United States tropical cyclones, from 1900 to 2010. Hurricane Donna caused 50 deaths!

So if you haven’t had to deal with the effects of a major hurricane (such as the ones listed above), consider yourself fortunate because our peninsula is almost surrounded by warm tropical waters…perfect for sustaining hurricane force winds.

Cleaning up your swimming pool

When it’s time to begin the post-hurricane clean up process, you may want to leave the swimming pool to us and here’s why:

Have you seen today’s commercial swimming pools and spas at the local resorts? I mean, talk about AMAZING!!

Commercial Swimming Pool and Spas

Commercial swimming pools of 2013 are so elaborate and ornately designed in order to captivate the senses of each guest or resident, depending on the building (e.g. resort or condo).

It’s no secret that resorts in Florida do their absolute best to provide wonderful accommodations with the intention of retaining each guest so that there’s no need to wander off site.

Resorts not only spend an inordinate amount of money on pool & spa renovations, but also:

  • Landscaping
  • Food and beverage
  • Pool-side lounge chairs, tables, and privacy tents
  • Pool-side entertainment including:
    • DJ’s
    • Karaoke stations
    • Live music entertainers
    • Games for families
  • Slides, waterfalls, and water features
  • Lazy-rivers

Not all commercial pools belong to resorts

It goes without saying that not all commercial pools here in Southwest Florida belong to resorts.

There are plenty of condominium complexes that are also renovating their pools in order to attract more residents.

The point that I’m trying to make is that if you’re not keeping your pool, spa, and other amenities up to par with the competition, don’t be surprised if your target market takes their business elsewhere.

And don’t fall into the trap of believing “Well, those kinds of pools and amenities are mainly found in the big cities and resort towns of Orlando, Miami, and Tampa.”

That’s just ridiculous because if you’ve visited some of the local resorts and condos on Sanibel, Captiva, Naples, and Fort Myers Beach, you’d see that all of the elements that I described above are already here!

The question is, are you taking advantage of all the modern advancements in outdoor entertainment to keep up with the Joneses?

If you own or manage a commercial swimming pool & spa here in Southwest Florida, ask yourself these questions:

Don’t you hate having red, irritated eyes after swimming in your salt water pool?

Keep Your PH Under Control

After all, salt-water pools are touted as being the superior choice for bather comfort! So why are your eyes so sore then? More on that in a moment.

How about seeing that nasty calcium scale build up that runs along your water line? While it’s appearance is not exactly a crowd pleaser, the more important issue is that calcium buildup can not only clog your pool filter…but it can also weaken the sanitizer’s performance.

How to Prevent Bloodshot Eyes from Pool Water

When you enter your pool or when you have friends over for a pool party, you want your pool looking and performing optimally, don’t you? What fun is a pool if you have to get out quickly from sore, bloodshot eyes?

If only there was a way that you could control the pH of your pool to be perfect at all times without always having to remember to monitor the pH level.

Good news! There is an automated solution to each of the problems described above that you may not be aware of.
