With young ones around, baby proofing your pool and pool safety measures

This is the eighth tip of our series “10 Tips to Creating the Ultimate Outdoor Environment.”

…can be the most important point of consideration in the creation of your new construction pool or spa in your ultimate outdoor environment.

Implementing pool safety measures and consistently monitoring your child’s whereabouts are crucial considerations in pool safety.

What can you do to ensure that your new pool or spa remains child safe?

  • Install a security fence: with over 300 children under the age of 5 drowning each year in pool accidents outside the home, installing a security fence around the perimeter of your pool is one of the best ways to ensure that your wandering child doesn’t fall into your pool. Security fences are typically made from mesh and are held together by aluminum poles. The pool safety fences are also known as baby gates or pool barriers.
  • Pool Alarms: You can also protect your child’s safety by installing a pool alarm. Pool safety alarms are floating or laser alarms that alert you when something comes within 8 yards of your pool or spa. These alarms can also be perimeter alarms, door alarms, window alarms, or gate alarms.
  • Pool Covers: Safety pool covers will ensure that children will not fall into your pool and can also be good for the cold winter months

No matter which pool safety method you choose, understand that no method is fool proof and there is no substitute for careful supervision.

Vigilance is the only way to ensure the safety of your little one within your new ultimate outdoor environment.
